Burnham Market - Chelsea-on-Sea

Burnham Market Village Cross, NorfolkThis busy Norfolk village is named after the nearby River Burn, and the market, which ceased operating in the middle of the nineteenth century. Today it has acquired the nickname of Chelsea-on-Sea, perhaps because of the considerable number of well-off Londoners who have acquired a second home here, but also due to the trendy boutiques and antique shops reminiscent of Chelsea’s King’s Road – quite different from the average Norfolk village!

Shops and Restaurants

Burnham Market Fish ShopRanged along the wide main street you will find a variety of independent shops selling food, clothing, gifts, antiques, crafts and art. Good food and drink is available in the restaurants at the Hoste Arms on the village green, The Jockey pub, or The Victoria at nearby Holkham.

Attractions

Nearby attractions include Burnham Thorpe with its Nelson connections, the Holkham Estate, Wells-next-the-Sea, Fakenham Racecourse and the Burnham Market Horse Trials. For art and crafts, visit Creake Abbey Studios and take a stroll around the ruins of the Augustinian Abbey. A farmers market is held at the Studios once a month.

Norfolk's Burnham Market with all its similarities to London's Chelsea, still retains the charm of a pretty Norfolk village!
